Abalone meat is also considered to be a premium product, and as such, it commands a higher price than other types of seafood.

Since the early 2000s, it has been illegal to gather wild abalone in New Zealand. This is due to overfishing, which has led to a decline in the population of this shellfish. As a result, the blacklip abalone fishery has been restricted since 2006. CULTIVATED (Farmed) ABALONE for environmental sustainability

Abalone is a type of shellfish that is highly prized for its delicate flavour and texture. It is typically found in the wild, but increasingly, abalone is being farmed. This is because wild abalone populations are becoming depleted due to overfishing. Farming abalone can help to mitigate this problem by providing a sustainable source of this seafood delicacy. Farmed abalone is considered to be more environmentally sustainable than wild-caught abalone. Farmed abalone is typically grown in enclosed areas where the water quality can be closely monitored. With Careful management practices and strict harvesting, regulations are key to running a successful and sustainable abalone farm.
